Congresswoman Bynum’s Statement Following President Trump’s State of the Union

February 24, 2026

Today, Congresswoman Janelle Bynum (OR-05) attended President Trump’s State of the Union Address to Congress. She was joined by Daniel Dodd, a Clackamas Community College student, who has been outspoken about the cost of living as a young Oregonian.

Rep. Bynum released the following statement after the speech:

“Tonight, I watched President Trump spend the majority of his speech lying about the state of our economy, demonizing immigrants, attacking voting rights, and spewing more of the same divisive BS. I can’t say I’m surprised. It’s past time the President starts doing his job and putting the American people first.

“In moments few and far between, he talked about supporting the next generation and building more housing. Talk is cheap. If he’s serious, I’m ready to work with him to make my K-30 agenda law and deliver real results for Oregonians. But make no mistake: I’m not holding my breath. With or without this President’s support, I’ll continue fighting to lower costs and create more opportunities for young Americans. The American people deserve it.”

In January, in an effort to confront the rising economic pressures on young Americans, U.S. Rep. Janelle Bynum (D-OR) launched her signature “K-30” agenda– a platform focused on supporting young Americans by improving access to education, housing, and the job market.
