K-30
It’s no secret that young Americans are struggling. Fewer children than ever outearn their parents. Over 15 percent of Gen Zers max out their credit card monthly. The average age of a first-time home buyer is 40. There are signs everywhere that our system is broken, but you don’t need statistics to see that.
As a mom of four, these issues are personal to me. I saw what my kids and their friends went through in school, I heard their anxieties about the future and the opportunities available to them, and I felt the challenges of raising a family and trying to make ends meet. Millions of young Americans have done exactly what’s been asked of them, but our country isn’t returning the favor. Things cost too much, and opportunity feels too scarce.
That’s why I introduced my K-30 platform: a bold, practical agenda and commitment to support young Americans from kindergarten through age 30. The K-30 agenda focuses on three pillars: education, jobs, and housing.
The premise is simple:
- Every child deserves access to a high-quality education that meets their needs.
- When that child graduates from school and does everything asked of them, there should be good-paying jobs available.
- When they get one of those jobs, they shouldn’t have to wait another 20 years to buy a home.
3 Pillars:
- Education
Every child deserves access to a high-quality education that meets their needs.
This education agenda invests in students from kindergarten through postsecondary pathways by equipping schools with resources, supporting educators, and expanding access to mental health and special education services. Together, these bills ensure students, especially those in rural and underserved communities, have the academic, emotional, and financial support needed to succeed from early learning through career preparation.
Bills:
- Invest in Rural Teachers Act
- Application Fees as Eligible Expenses (FEES) Act
- School Bus Stop-Arm Safety Camera Act
- Connecting Students with Mental Health Services Act
- IDEA Full Funding Act
- Jobs
When a child graduates from school and does everything asked of them, there should be good-paying jobs available.
These job-focused initiatives expand access to capital, workforce training, and family-supportive infrastructure to help young people and working parents enter, remain, and advance in the labor force. By supporting small businesses, rural economies, emerging industries, and child care access, this package connects education and training to real, family-sustaining jobs through age 30 and beyond.
Bills:
- Rural Service and Workforce Corps Act
- Leveraging Investment in Mass Building and Employment with Renewable (LIMBER) Timber Act
- CHIPS Child Care Act
- Expanding Access to Capital for Rural Job Creators Act
- Access to Small Business Investor Capital Act
- Housing
First-time home buyers should not have to wait 20-plus years to afford a home.
Housing stability is foundational to educational and economic success, particularly for young adults and families starting out. This suite of bills tackles housing shortages, workforce gaps, and affordability barriers while expanding pathways to homeownership and addressing youth homelessness – ensuring safe, stable housing at every stage of the K-30 continuum.
Bills:
- Accelerating Homebuilding Act
- Supporting Projects to Unleash Residential (SPUR) Housing Act
- First-Time Home Buyers Match Act
- Homebuilder Corps Act
- Appraisal Industry Improvement Act
Homeless Children and Youth Act
