Yesterday, Congresswoman Janelle Bynum (OR-05) hosted a jobs-focused day of events, visiting three prominent Oregon-based employers and hearing the need for growing job opportunities for Oregonians now and in the future. She visited with large employers, like Adidas, and local small businesses, like General Sheet Metal.
Rep. Bynum toured Stumptown Coffee’s cold brew manufacturing facility in Milwaukie, a new addition to the coffee company that employs around 270 people in the Portland and Milwaukie areas. Next, she made a third visit in the past few years to General Sheet Metal, a construction and fabrication company based in Clackamas, where she got an update about their employee-owned model, innovation, and their skilled union workforce. Finally, at Adidas’s Portland Campus, where the company’s official North American headquarters is located, Rep. Bynum discussed the job opportunities that the company creates in Oregon and the unique apparel and footwear ecosystem found only in Oregon.
“Big or small, national or local, publicly traded or employee owned, all businesses need to feel welcome here in Oregon,” said Rep. Bynum. “We have a workforce that I’d put toe-to-toe with any state in the country – all three businesses I met with yesterday can attest to it. All that’s left to do is commit to Oregonians that we will continue investing in them and bringing more opportunity home. That’s why I’m fighting to strengthen our economy and our business environment to create more job opportunities for working families and young Oregonians.”
In January, Rep. Bynum introduced her signature K-30 agenda, a platform focused on supporting young Americans in part by strengthening the job market through supporting local businesses, emerging industries, and rural economies. She is also a member of the House Financial Services Committee where she works to lower the cost of living and create more jobs.
