Bynum Calls on Senate to Stand Up for the American People

March 14, 2025

“I won’t hang my constituents out to dry – and Senate Democrats shouldn’t either.”

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Janelle Bynum (OR-05) released the following statement on the government funding bill under consideration in the Senate:

“With each passing day in Washington, I get more and more furious that this country isn’t delivering on its promises. I show up for my people – end of story. I thought that’s what we came here to do. This bill is bad for Oregonians and bad for America. Senator Schumer should be out here fighting alongside House Democrats – snatching wigs and doing anything he can to stand up for the American people.

“We should be the party that fights for our people, not the party that throws up our hands and surrenders. We should be the party that rejects partisan BS, not the party that goes along to get along. And we need to be the party that always puts the American people first.

“Today we can be that party by rejecting this Continuing Resolution and demanding Republicans come to the table and negotiate a bill that helps our families. I won’t hang my constituents out to dry – and Senate Democrats shouldn’t either.”

Background
Earlier this week, Congresswoman Bynum voted against the Continuing Resolution in the House, calling it a “trash budget top to bottom” that fails to follow through on promises to Oregonians.

The bill would take nearly $30 million of funding away from Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District, putting a halt to projects ranging from providing clean drinking water to reducing traffic. The full list is here.
